Five Key Indicators and Their Predictive Value on Lakers Regular Season PPG Performance
Introduction
In an analysis of the 2021-2022 Lakers season, the focus was on understanding the relationship between various performance metrics and their influence on points per game.
Data from basketball-reference and nba.com served as the foundation for this investigation, with a multiple linear regression approach at its core. The model, after addressing multicollinearity and potential outliers, showcased an R-squared value of 0.85, meaning the independent variables explained 85% of the variance in points scored per game. The evaluation pinpointed effective field goal percentage, games played, and steals as having a significant correlation with points per game, whereas free throw percentage, blocks, and personal fouls were less correlated.
